Eric Groody holds a B.A. (Honours) from St. Francis Xavier University, part of the requirements for which were completed at the University of Durham. He graduated from the Law School at Dalhousie University in Halifax, Nova Scotia.
Mr. Groody was admitted to the Alberta bar in 1982, after serving articles at Code Hunter.
Mr. Groody practices civil advocacy, comprising commercial and other private dispute resolution, and constitutional and other public law litigation. He represents parties in provincial and territorial superior courts and Courts of Appeal, the Federal Court of Canada and the Supreme Court of Canada.
Mr. Groody acts for clients in the energy, resource, insurance and other sectors.
Sample areas of experience include retainers in the following public law areas: administrative, Charter of Rights, education, elections, forestry, governmental prerogative powers, professional regulation and municipal government.
Private law experience includes commercial litigation and arbitration, corporate and employment disputes, insurance and product liability.
Sample areas of legal representation that affect both private and public law interests include environmental impact assessment and land use planning.
Mr. Groody is managing partner of the firm.
